The fears and myths behind how the planets got their names

We assume everyone looks up at the same sky, but what different cultures saw varied widely. Romans named the visible planets after gods matching their mood: reddish Mars for war, twinkling Venus for beauty, fast-moving Mercury for the messenger, vast Jupiter for the king of gods and slow Saturn for time. China read the heavens differently.
